Saving the Farm Meeting

The Cherokee County Farmland Preservation Advisory Board is hosting a Summit on farmland preservation efforts in Cherokee County. Last year Cherokee County was awarded a grant from NCDA&CS-ADFPTF to help the Advisory Board develop a Farmland protection plan. This plan will help identify ways for landowners to voluntarily preserve farmland. Results of a countywide phone survey conducted in January to measure public knowledge and interest in farmland preservation will be discussed. Other topics will include forming voluntary ag districts, planning the future of your farm, what other counties are doing to preserve farms, and ways to make your farm more profitable.

This Summit will be held all day on March 12th at McGuire’s Millrace Farm Event Center starting 8:30am. The Summit is free of charge and lunch will be provided, but you will need to RSVP by March 9th to reserve your seat and meal. For directions and to register, please contact the Cherokee County Cooperative Extension office at 837-2210 by March 9th.
